THE WHY, HOW AND WHEN OF HAIR CONDITIONER
THE BIG WHY:
Hair Conditioner improves the feel, appearance and manageability of the hair. It also helps with hair hydration, strengthening and reduction of split ends. So rather than cleansing strands, it conditions the hair follicle. Because the conditioner detangled the knots, it makes it easier for you to comb and style your hair. The conditioner seals back up the hair’s cuticle that has been opened up by the shampoo, while also locking in the nutrients and pollutants out. This in turn strengthen the hair shaft, preventing breakage, split ends as well as hair loss.
HOW & WHEN
Conditioner can be used immediately after shampooing or can be used on its own. Knowing your hair porosity (click on this link to read more about hair porosity) can also help you make a wise decision as to how often you use the conditioner. However, if your hair is prone to greasiness, you can condition less, but if it’s dry or damaged, then conditioning should be part of your routine.
Do I really need a Shampoo if I have a Conditioner?
The answer is YES. Often, we make the mistake of thinking we only need one or the other. The truth is, your hair needs both, but you don’t necessarily have to use them together. For your “off” shampoo days, you can use conditioner. Remember because of shampoo’s moisture-stripping tendencies, it is recommended that you up your conditioner usage as you lather up.
